Receptor for gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) that mediates the action of GnRH to stimulate the secretion of the gonadotropic hormones luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This receptor mediates its action by association with G-proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system.

1. In the uterus, GnRH-R stained strongly in the surface and glandular epithelial cells, and seemed to be weaker in myometrium and stroma. These findings suggest a local regulatory function of gonadotropin releasing hormone during early canine pregnancy. PMID: 26296524
2. resequencing of canine gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor differed from that previously published by a single base change that translates to a different amino acid in position 193 PMID: 25442384
